2024 Charmouth Challenge and Fun Run Postponed
It is with great sadness that we announce that the Charmouth Challenge and Fun Run 2024 is postponed due to unforeseen circumstances.
We apologise for the inconvenience this no doubt will cause and the obvious disappointment that the event will not take place next month as planned.
Charmouth School PTFA are dedicated to running this event in 2025 and onwards, and we really hope to have your continued support moving forwards.
The Charmouth School Summer Fair will still be running as planned on Saturday 6th July from 10am to 1pm and we really hope to see you there.
The Charmouth Challenge is a chip timed 8-mile fell run with over 40 years of history. It is a hilly multi-terrain course through some of the finest coastal scenery in the South West on Dorset’s beautiful Jurassic Coast, overlooking Charmouth’s famous fossil hunting beaches with views to historic Lyme Regis. It includes an ascent of Golden Cap, which is the highest point on the South Coast of England at 191 metres.
PLEASE NOTE: The use of headphones are not allowed, no dogs, wheeled vehicles or walkers. You must be 18 to enter this race.
The Fun Run is a 2-mile run taking in Stonebarrow Hill. One adult can accompany up to 3 children aged 7 years and under. Children aged 8 years and above can run unaccompanied.
The Charmouth Challenge has been organised every year since 1983 and is the main fund-raiser for our village Primary school. The event enjoys the valued support of the whole village and runners come from far and wide to participate.
2022 In Review
The unseasonal weather may have been providing a more than adequate cooling system for athletes, spectators and volunteers alike, but the heart of the Charmouth Challenge was beating warmly as nearly 300 runners braved the bracing winds on the Jurassic Coast for the first time since 2019. It didn’t put off our winners, with George House winning the Fun Run in 12 minutes and 1 second, and Jacek Cieluszecki taking the Challenge top spot in 52 minutes and 13 seconds. Congratulations to them both and to all our amazing entrants.
